Snapshots of Eliot Church

Cambodian New Year, April 15

Eliot's Cambodian New Year celebration, planned by Rev. Thysan Sam, included multicultural dancing to give thanks to God. First the Cambodian Choir sang and danced around the sanctuary, then the African Fellowship Choir took a turn. The children joined the procession with their butterflies.

Sue Dill led the children's Celebration Choir in singing "Hosanna" on Palm Sunday. Pictured here, they are warming up before the service. Near the beginning of worship they sang their part along with the Inspiration Choir.

Epiphany Pageant, Jan. 1, 2012

Our beautiful cast gathered for a picture while the congregation sang "Hark, the Herald Angels Sing" at the end of our pageant this year. Many thanks to Michael Sheu for organizing the pageant and to the Sunday school teachers for making it happen. Also thanks to Joyce Hughes, Don Burns, Carl Hoffman and Emily Hoffman for the music.

Sharing our memories

On Sunday, Dec. 25, at the end of his sermon, Pastor Skip invited everyone to tell a meaningful Christmas memory or tradition.

People told about delicious stew, sparkling lights, a new bicycle, and other ways Jesus' birth is celebrated in many places.

Christmas Eve service

On Christmas Eve 2011, Eliot Church celebrated the birth of Jesus with a service of lessons and carols.

During the previous week Pastor Skip had led a Longest Night service in which the congregation came together to support those who do not feel "merry" at Christmas time. They lit candles, prayed, and spent some quiet time looking forward to Christ's coming.

In the Christmas Eve service the congregation celebrated with music in a variety of styles by all of Eliot's choirs, as well as instrumental and vocal solos.

Children came in procession bringing poinsettias to decorate the front of the sanctuary.

There were scripture readings from Isaiah and Luke, the congregation sang "Silent Night" by candlelight, and the service ended with "Joy to the World."
